IT'S PANCAKE DAY
... and two years since CTNM began
Shrove Tuesday – now more commonly known as Pancake Day, is the day preceding Ash Wednesday, the first day of Lent.
In most traditions the day is known for the eating of pancakes before the start of Lent. Pancakes are eaten as they are made out of the main foods available, sugar, fat, flour and eggs, whose consumption was traditionally restricted during the ritual fasting, associated with Lent. RECIPES COMING SOON: Lasagne, chicken casarole and sushi
Wednesday 1st February: Last night we went for a curry for two of the girl’s birthdays. I made a cake for the occasion, although there is a Smartie missing which cause great controversy. I used the basic cupcake recipe and added red food colouring which turned the sponge pink. Here is the Vanilla butter cream recipe, which I smothered on top. Arguably the best bit.
Thursday 5th Jan 2012: It’s all over for another year, and now I am looking forward to BBQ’s and fresh salads in the summer sun. In the meantime here is a recipe to keep you warm for the remaining winter months. Fish Pie.
If you are watching your weight for your new years resolution, use skimmed milk and could even substitute a bit of the milk for water. You could also replace the mash potatoes for mashed carrots or swede and the butter for garlic paste to soften the onions. CTNM is back next week. : ) |
Wednesday 21st December: Christmas really is looming. I am so unorganised and only realsied that yesteday afternoon so I ran out to the shop to panic buy and panic bought a nice dress for myself instead. Oh well, It's christmas after all and I WILL need a pretty dress for the big day.
